Guangdong Sanyuan McDonald's Company and Guangdong Nanyue Logistics Holding Company have announced plans to jointly open drive-thru restaurants on the express ways throughout Guangdong province.

The first drive-thru restaurant is reported to be located at the rear service area of the Shen Shan Expressway in Guangdong Province.

Guangdong Nanyue Logistics Holding Company runs 43 pairs of expressway service areas, which account for more than 80% of the total express way service areas in Guangdong Province. Zhou Weicheng, vice president of McDonald's China and general manager of McDonald's in southern China says that drive-thrus earned more profit for McDonald's last year than expected and they will focus on developing drive-thru this year.

Zhou says that of all of the 40 restaurants they plan to open this year, about half will be drive-thrus.
